Renaissance of the ancient Jewish innovation

The european Renaissance has largely shaped our modern times by reviving (or separating from its middle age connection with the catholic church) great political and cultural innovations of the ancient Greeks and Romans, such as democracy, economy, philosophy, science, theory, art, roman law, roman administration or republican politics in our age. But one Renaissance still is waiting to take place - the Renaissance of Judaism.
It is the concept of the biblical God, who is not depictable, who exists outside of the world, who speaks to men and who is living in a book, which was the incredible Jewish innovation happening about 2500 years ago. This concept by its mental and spiritual abstractness causes til today an unique impression. God is the outstanding model of individual personality, which is basing on the mind or spirit.

The anncient Jewish innovation has set a spiritual standard, which today's Weltanschauung by all its rationalism, naturalism and system-thinking has not yet reached again. As long as our civilisation primarily treats a woman or a man by her or his material, social or bureaucratic conditions, our view of things, our view of "conditio humana" is too short in a fatal way. For our (scientific) mind makes us to destroy all collective entities from nature to society. We don't want to do this intentionally, but we only can prevent it, if we as individual minds are able to take control over any sort(!) of collective power - inside and outside of ourself.

Judaism derives from the discovery that language and writing as active sharing in the spirit for us, the human beings, is the decisive fate. Perhaps it was no coincidence that the first and only time, somebody invented an alphabet, it was done by the same semite people (or by near relatives), who within the next thousand years have discovered or conceived the extra-mundane God and have written the bible. (Of course they took profit of the great tradition of egyptian writing culture.)
Humankind has to cope with this fate of having spirit. The results of modern science and technology are proving it by their inherent threats of human life. But humankind only is able cope with this fate on the level of individual personality, because all collective entities from family to nation-state are too ideologically, that is mentally too restricted refered to their existence and by this fall behind an adequate handling of the fact of the mental and spiritual freedom, which is accessible to us.

There are two reasons for the lateness of a Renaissance of the ancient judaistic innovation in modern times. One reason is christianity, whose grand, old synthesis of Jewish, hellenistic and roman elements has as long a preventing influence, as long as modern times cannot realize such a great synthesis according to their own standards.
The other reason is the definite, fateful attachement of the Jewish innovation to the Jewish people. (This attachement is fateful, because fate, more exactly language as fate is its central subject!) The innovation, to believe in a extra-mundane God and to put language (writing) in the first position, happened in ancient times. And the Jews (persons believing in Judaism) by their great spirit maintained their existence as a people through all the centuries til today.
Now, in ancient times, when Jews fought against Babylonians, Persians, Greeks and Romans to get freedom and autonomy, ābeing-one-people' effectively was an individual position - but it is'nt any more the case in modern times, when individualism had its breakthrough.
Judaism and modernity doesn't fit together so far. Judaism on the one side has found an adequate handling of the specific spiritual human fate, but on the other side still is collectivistic. Modernity, in return for, is basing on the general concept of the human being and by this individual in principle. But because of the dominance of its inter-subjective rationalities (science) and procedures (technology, bureaucracy, economy) modernity has not yet found an appropriate attitude towards the fact of the spirit as human fate (and towards the fact of life as destiny in general). Even modern artists can't find this attitude in spite of allltheir individuality, because they are an elite - once again a collectivistic category.
(For the same reason as well modern nationalism, which at first was created by Old Testament Puritans in Holland, in England during the "Glorious Revolution" and by the Pilgrim Fathers in America before coming to France, could not figure as the "Renaissance of ancient Judaism", though it directly derives from the ancient myth of the Israelite people, who left Egypt as slaves in order to gain freedom and who then moved to their promised own "national" countryside.)

There is one point, however, where Judaism meets individualism - in the character of the messiah. What - however - could messiah mean to modernity? Obviously we, the modern people, cannot take a messiah as "another hero" (think at Monty Python's "Life of Brian"). But the messiah as a paradigm of free, individual, personal life including mental freedom and general responsibility is highly relevant. This paradigm could give the modern single woman or the modern single man that greatness, they need, but provisionally still are looking for in modern products, in identification with stars, with collectives or old religions. The messiah, better, Being Messiah is the coincidence of (Jewish) God and the ordinary woman or the ordinary man, without any relativization of the two sides. And messiah is a concept, which meets itself as well with the greek enlightment of Socrates as with the individual basis of the roman law.

Once again, all we are talking about here, only can happen within a strict individuality, which, historically seen, had a great precursor in the individual soul of christianity!

Today, 17 years after the end of the ideology of theoretical predominace of money (=real existing marxism/socialism) and after a political interregnum, which was dominated by the winner-ideology of practical predominace of money (=real existing capitalism), which both are rationalist ideologies, we should at last come to an end of all ideologies. Money, being just a medium, definitely cannot replace God. We don't speak here about a religious God or about the God, who is managed by an elite of clerics. We speak about the biblical, about the Jewish God - about the model of a general human personality, which means the great object of spiritual, moral and material independent (ordinary) people living together in a free world. Human's responsibility towards God is just the mirror for her or his 'real existing' independence and the one of her or his fellow-human beings. For, independence (or freedom) only exists in combination with comprehensive responsibility.

It is the particular and fateful task of everyone of us to establish this last Renaissance, the Renaissance of ancient Judaism in modern times by elaborating her or his own personal spirit, his or her own using of language and ethic.
No elites can deal with this task for us! But it is up to their elitist responsibility, to steer the course of world civilization in this direction.
Why should they do it? Because the world society needs a new paradigm in order to finally find a real start. And who else can give this paradigm to us than the Jews, who have established the great vision of a free and peaceful mankind more than 2500 years ago and never have given it away through all the times since then - however to which costs. They certainly would have liked to do without them!

I ask a lot of the jewish believers - if you want, the deconstruction or generalization of their creed. But after Auschwitz there is no more alternative. What is the substance of Judaism, has to become at last human common knowledge, instead of keeping alife antisemitism. We, being a "hightech-species" - mind you, because of the use of language and symbols, that is the use of the spirit -, urgently need the jewish innovation in order to survive and to honour ourselves! The spirit, every human's spirit that is God, determines and loves the body, the own body of everybody, every human being. To the greatness and the power of the human language only is given expression by "God". Before God we all are equal and every human has a command of the language! As long as we don't found our life and our coexistence on this, we will continue to kill one another and ourselves with better and better weapons!

Initiation - Rite of passage

'Missing link' between modernity and the continuity of life

Initiation as term at first was used by a french monk in the eighteenth century in order to describe some rituals, he observed at so called 'traditional cultures'. The purpose of theses rituals mostly was concerning the transition from childhood to adulthood. More generally initiation is the ritual to get admission in many various forms of groups. Death that is the acceptance of death ('second death') very often is an essential part of initiation. More information you can get in "Rites and Symbols of Initiation : The Mysteries of Birth and Rebirth" by Mircea Eliade.

Today we are looking back billions of years in the history of the universe. So what was the beginning of being human? What had thrown woman and man out of paradise? The first tool? No, tools are used by animals, too! The language? Yes, because language on earth is new and is beyond nature - beyond the immediate, which is the better concept. Language is living between or beyond the sounds or signs and not in them, for that reason it is the opposite of the immediate. (Think at "one" and "eins", which both means the same in spite of the different form.)
When our ancesters began to speak? Most pundits suppose that this great human event happened more than fifty thousand years ago. Since then mankind is living within two worlds - the immediate continuity of life and the world of mind, which you can neither see nor feel (though you can feel language and express feelings by language, but both is not mind). Everybody is every day a bridge between these two worlds, when he is using language.

In unimaginable long eras of mankind's existence the cultural evolution happened very slowly. Even when the settled way of life started - about ten thousand years ago, things changed very slowly. Even when in ancient times unit of measurement, script, notation and money was invented, things changed very slowly - but they changed!
Modernity began, when the change got faster and when the role, mind is playing in human life, got greater. This happened in the modern(!) age - the period, we still are living in.

Today the use of mind dominates our life and makes it artificial. The coexistence of the immediate continuity of life and the modern capacities of mind still is dangerous and perhaps letal. For what everybody of us wants to do, is decided to a great extent from his evolutionary heritage, when life even for the first cells was a lot of fighting and surviving. The means, however, man can use today to get his objects, are results of the great achievements of mind. Both aspects still didn't have found a stable relationship. The fear of new technologies is a clear sign of it.

The possibility of a letal out-come, the adventure of mind could take for mankind, brings initiation into it. Modern initiation at first is the analytical discovery that mind - the use of language, script and notation - is absolutely indifferent towards whoever's biological life and far exceeds it in duration. Second, modern initiation is the vital personal experience of this specific sort of death or threat of death, which exists inside of everybody of us in form of our active participation in mind - as result of our capacity of speaking.
The definition of initiation is the real experience of death without really to die. Only by modern initiation (wo)man is able to establish a lasting relationship between mind and life, because by this experience mind will be recognized and accepted in all its consequences.

Further details of modern initiation are its dependence of a free mind, of individuality and of adulthood. Only a free mind is able to understand its own quality beyond time and outside of the immediate world. And only a free mind can define its relationsship to biological life. Individuality is 'conditio sine qua non' in order to meet the own death. Whereas adulthood is necessary to bring this meeting with death - the initiation - to an positive end, which establish and enrich the individual personality. All other aspects of modern initiation like the extent, the frequency and the dramatic form of the crisis and revival, like the subjective feelings, the best age, the danger of failure and so on have to be up to the countless singular ways of life.

Perhaps the treatment of history in this article seems too cursory in face of the enormous wealth of facts and actions of billions of people during all epochs of past times. Actually the closest attention of this article is the great human life, which follows the modern initiation. By this initiation every person can be the real protagonist of his life, who in the same time has great respect for his fellow human beings. The adjustment of good conditions of living for everybody will be within reach, when people aren't so much addicted neither to collectivistic ideologies and structures nor to materialistic and egoistic values. And politicians get better instructions by voters, who are individual personalities.

The more the conditions of living are complex, the more people have to lead themselves on the basis of a free but compatible mind. That's one of the prime discoveries of philosophy - the discovery of Socrates!
Modern initiation - if you want, a sort of "reset" or "new start" of the adult personality - is the way to achieve real existing autonomy. But it is only the second step. The first step is the inauguration of the institution of political individuality, like proposed in the STRING-Project.




Beyond 'globalization' by new political institutions

The purpose of this site is politics - but not in a theoretical or critical meaning. Beyond 'globalization' not at least means beyond theory, too. What you can see here, is a paradigmatic and trendsetting part of Thinking and Writing, which wants to personify a particularistic universalism in politics. (Particularistic universalism is the next step after postmodernism.)
Without leaving the existing political system of democratic societies (or the western rationalism) STRING by its individual existence and its political objectives points at the necessity that the members of these societies - that all (!) men should be individual human personalities. Still being a desideratum (a wish) even in the "first" world, this is an essential element of the great goal of a free and stable world society of mankind.
Two new institutions, which are linked together, shall manifest and establish this necessary step for our human future.
1. The status of political independence for the individual, which I claim for myself, is introducing the single person as basic political institution. It reduces the tasks of the democratic state founded on the rule of law, but of the economy as well to the services for the limited collective needs of modern life.
2. A global political, but non-bureaucratic world-event is focusing mankind as a political whole. It has a defined priority over all other collective institutions by representing the world-society of men. Its institutional task is the inauguration of the institution of individual political independence. This is its essential lasting effect.
Both institutions could be understood as a sort of world constitution, which is completing the patchwork of nation-states and global institutions on earth and which gives these states no alternative to establishing free and civil societies.
That's, what politics has to fight for today in order to get back the political initiative from the economic globalization and it is a definition of STRING - the political innovation for our age.

STRING as Foundation of democratic world politics

The scarcity (or even the absence) of the resources for living stillis predominant for the great majority of people all around theearth. The current discussions about globalization, about laissez-faire capitalismand the extent of regulations in any casetake for granted the argument of scarcity and of the necessity of having(payed) work.
Obviously we cannot evade the scarcity on the level of our personal fateand life. It is not possible, for instance, to have infinite life or allthe goods of the earth. But scarcity as severe collective or socialproblem should really be dropped - which already is possible with the technologicalmeans of today and even more by the further development of our civilizingpotentials! But a look at our world seems to prove that to be an impossible object.What is the reason?
The current world-political or world-economical discussions - instead of leading an intelligent progress - still are shaped by a hierarchic, discipline-orientated, "surviving-of-the-fitest" power-thinking. This fact is just hidden by the idea of the market as natural and inevitable world order - an idea, which in the end is not less collectivistic as the socialism and does not at all support the growing independence of economy as one of the outstanding modern institutions.
You can find this old-fashioned thinking on all sides, on the side of nearly all elites and lobbyists, of most people, of most cultures and, not to forget, on the side of many theorists. What is missing, is the belief in the capacity of the individual to have real freedom!

The origin of STRING is the conviction that the world-community ofman needs a new polity, which cannot directly be derived fromthe structures and traditions of existing societies (also not from the one we know as parliamentary-democratic states)! In order to achievethis aim, STRING proposes the political connection between the single individualand the whole world-society by a political innovation, a global world-event, which is focussing mankind as a whole and which has priority over all other collective entities. This world-event is drafted as a new form of institution, whose decisive qualities are the limitedness of time and the renunciation of bureaucracy. This institution of mankind wants to enforce its revolutionagainst the powerfull traditional collectives of today's world by establishing a status of politicalindependence for the individual, a status which every single person couldclaim. Only by this new status of individual independence the world-event gets an indirect, non-organized continuance.
The institutional "double-hit", world-event and individual status replacesall initiatives for a future world-order, which still is basing on the power of existing collectives (i.e. power by military, economic, legal or spiritual dominance).

STRING was born in the belief that the future of mankind depends onthis revolution, because the principle of collectivity as a value in itself- combined with modern technology and organisation - has become a security risk. Therefore the radical and historical change of the political paradigm from the collective to the individual is inevitable. This change, of course, shouldnot be confounded with the abolishment of all existing institutional or cultural forms and structures. All common interests of the people has to be looked after by the existing and new democratic states founded on the rule of law. As well nobody can seriously thinkat the end of local cultural identifications and traditions! (I am myself citizen of Munich, which is well known all over the world for the "Oktoberfest".) The decisive difference between old and new forms of collectivity willbe, whether these collective entities or creeds still have forms and purposes whichare more or less independent of the majority of their members - the individuals - or whether they are servants of them, instead.

STRING wants to convince people all around the world to fill out the political status of individual independence - not at least by a new initiatory kind of being adult(which includes the resumed engagement in the cultural significance of death). The innovative progress of technological and economical means, whichcharacterizes modernity, has not yet come to an end and besides of many other things will helpmaking possible local material independence in many different forms. If it stands to all of us, world-wide, in good stead, we will learn as well to bring its dangers under control.
But the most striking motivation for STRING is the pleasure to organize a really big world-party after the world-event, where we could celebrate the emergence of a free and vivid community of mankind.

STRING is my project. By realizing it I not at least want to establish my personal political independence! But I appeal to you too, to help STRING on its way in your own interest - motivated by the discovery that the public interest of our present world-society is not any more mastered by the existing political or economical elites. We need a fundamental and extensive step of emanzipation in order to create a new proper form of responsibility for the common of mankind, which is basing on the self-determination of the individual!
You can do this step in two ways: At first you can encourage yourself taking over the position of political independence. (This concrete "decollectivization" shall happen step by step during a transitional period, to be carried through by the single persons all over the world.) And secondly you can contribute to STRING by helping me to promote and to organize the world-event and the world-party. STRING shall be the glorious symbol of a new age of the individual and mankind.







Nationalism and republicanism

The project STRING is aimed at the inauguration of two new institutions, which are connected with each other: The institution of political sovereignty of the individual person and a political world event, which is the emergence and the institutional embodiment of the community of all human beings. By inaugurating the institution of individual sovereignty this world event is the constitutent assembly of world society. That sounds a bit unfamiliar at first, but is the perfekt expression of our age. At last, finally, globalization goes constitutional and political.

The astonishing fact that STRING as a constitutional global political project presents itself with a proper name is the result of its individual beginning. This kind of beginning is essential in this case. A world, which is made by and for individual persons, only can begin individually, which is as well with a proper name instead of a rational concept (f.e. "nation"). Otherwise such a political project and its results would again be the product of a collective elite, who dominates the single individual persons.
STRING doesn`t make you prescriptions, but invites you to create the/your individual world, which is lasting, because every person will be able to take individual responsibility for oneself and for the whole world in the same time. That is what the modern world expects from us, the individual persons! That is what we have to create! You can find your own name for it, if you want.

This project is the "reset" of the modern political disposition of democracy and republicanism on a as well global as individual level. It directly evolved from the responsibility for the german history, which still is under a sort of dominance of the holocaust and of the extreme power concentration in the person of Adolf H.. It directly evolved from the german history, which as well stands for a great philosophical tradition. Taking responsibility for the political and moral catastrophe of the III. Reich requires something, which exceeds being industrious, honest and 'federal-republican'. Only if the german culture finds constructive and appropriate answers to the disaster of its history, which gave terribly suffering and/or death to so many people, it can get its national souvereignty in a high, spiritual, in a symbolic meaning.

Consider STRING as the late, original contribution of my purified national culture to the set of modern institutions, which shall take humankind into a positive political future - a task, which sometimes seems insoluble.
In the current situation we need both: The proper and correct use of military power in the transition to the constitutional power of the police and the progress of civilization by new institutions. If you want a label, call STRING 'constitutional anarchy' or better 'constitutional monarchy', since the base of a humankind capable to survive, which doesn't any more work off its technological know-how of weapons one against the other, will be the peaceful self-governement of the single human beings. This individual self-governement already is the modus vivendi of the great majority of people and it will be a hallowed good, when its political meaning for the human future is fully seen - a meaning, which is far exceeding the one of the military.

Each text you find on this web-site, is the variation of the same subject, whose difficulty doesn't ressemble the one of a mathematical problem, but comes from laying claim to the relevance to the present of a new combination of elements of theoretical programmes, historical models and of political acting
